V18.2.1 update failed. Will not start

#1

Suitcase Fusion would not start after the last update. I then took these steps: uninstalled, downloaded latest files, turned off all virus and malware apps, removed Extensis entries from the registry, checked that all files were deleted. I tried the installation again complying to one request for end-process (server side java). Installer seems to complete without errors and makes a folder in the start menu, but it’s empty! I have repeated this process multiple times and tried to install v7 v18.0.4 and even tried Suitcase 6. All with the same results. FMcore.exe starts with a click in Windows Explorer, but none of the other executables will start. I can’t start Suitcase Win 7/64.

Extensis folders moved from start menu to trash will not delete.

Before I restore a system backup. . . Has anyone had or heard of this experience???

Thanks for your question. It’s possible something is still interfering with the application and preventing it from starting. Before you roll your system back… We would like to troubleshoot the issue a bit more to see if we can resolve it.

hi,
let check whether there is font Tahoma Normal present in system Win/Font folder. I had similar problem: https://forums.extensis.com/t/program-not-start-seems-to-be-solved/1751

Missed you. Will try again.

#5

I have Tahoma Normal installed in the system but Suitcase 7 don’t start.

None error message and FMcore.exe is started without problem.

I have Win 7 x64 SP1.

#6

My problem seems to be a corrupt Windows Installer. More later.

Extensis tech support has always been awesome. This is NOT a suitcase problem. I thought it might be a Windows issue, so I called Microsoft support. Sure enough, A Windows Installer was buggered. I planned to report when repair was complete, but the repair failed and my PC is now a real mess. The case is still open. It might be time to upgrade to Win 10. Suitcase is compatible with 10, yes?

Hi Dayle,

Thanks for the follow-up post. v18.2.1 is compatible with Windows 10 and thanks for using Suitcase Fusion.

#11

Absolutely,

I was happy to do that. I only posted that question to maybe find a solution, not to complain. I wanted to make that clear. You guys are great.

I’m really excited to try FontGenius. I’ve been having to use WhatTheFont. Sure will be nice to have that on my system.

THANKS,

Dayle Martin
