Extensis Portfolio API - FAQ : [ Metadata ]

#1

:nerd: Yes ! When an item is initially cataloged, it is automatically assigned an “Item ID” which Portfolio uses as the identifier.

:exclamation: The “Item ID” is unique across all Catalogs, but note that if an item is somehow re-cataloged ( e.g. the filename and/or path is changed outside of Portfolio ), it will be assigned a new “Item ID”. If your application requires a method of identification — even if objects are re-cataloged — consider creating an Embedded Custom Field ( e.g. [ “XMP - Example - Asset ID” ; “xap:ExampleAssetID” ] ). Your application will need to initially generate the unique global identifier ( “GUID” ) which would also be embedded into the header of the object ( travelling with it ). This method will ensure that you never lose track of the object’s GUID, even if the object travels between multiple Portfolio installations.

:exclamation: Note that when Portfolio embeds ( or extracts ) XMP metadata to a file header , the following numeric values are used ( per Adobe’s specification — adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe … nPart2.pdf ) :
